About Ministry Of Tomorrow - Vegan Accessories
Founded by the desire to create change, opportunity and beautiful pieces that tell stories of hope, Julian Prolman, CEO of Ministry of Tomorrow is determined to see his artisans prosper.
Quality and Design
Ministry of Tomorrow defines luxury through a new expression of imaginative design that is elegant and at the same time distinctive and functional. Our fashion statement is: “Awe-inspiring works of art”. Our bags are hand-crafted by skilled artisans who are proudly devoted to producing one-of-a-kind, exceptional quality bags.
MOT’s flagship project is in Nairobi, Kenya just outside of Kibera, one of Africa’s largest slums. This MOT-built facility sponsors professional artisan tailors who are recruited from within Kibera to make designer women’s and men’s bags, creating sustainable livelihoods for its employees. The employees at the bag factory are able to work in a safe, comfortable, and clean environment.
Women’s empowerment is another MOT core initiative, exemplified by Gertrude "Michelle" Aricha, who has been sponsored by MOT to fully own and operate the factory that produces the company’s bags. Michelle in turn employs tailors from Kibera to produce the luxury bags for MOT.
As our top priority, wherever possible, we use the highest quality sustainable eco materials to make our bags that include; high quality vegan leather from Italy and Japan (Polyurethane), 100% certified organic and fair trade canvas from India, low impact dyes and recycled rubber padding.
For example, the canvas used inside our bags is made from organic cotton that is sourced from Rajlakshmi Mills in Kolkata, India. Rajlakshmi Mills buys the cotton directly from the Chetna Organic Farmers Association, a collective of more than 6,000 organic cotton farmers that Rajlakshmi Mills supports at every step from the field to the mill.
The same eco-philosophy applies throughout the entire process (no chemicals used that harm the earth and respect for the employees) including the ginning (cleaning the cotton), then spinning into yarn which is then woven or knitted into fabric. Even the dyeing process for colored fabrics utilizes low impact dyes that are approved for organic production.
Our customers can take comfort in knowing that every step of production in making our eco-luxury bags contributes to the creation of meaningful change all along the way.
Social and Environmental Activism
Responsible commerce is the way of doing business. MOT products are produced with respect for the earth, animals and humans. They closely examine the supply chain at each step of production and amp up the goodness associated with the raw materials that go into their products and for the people who make them.
Your purchase of MOT products enables sustainable development providing opportunities for people in marginalized places of the world.
MOT chose the pine cone as their symbol because it represents The Third Eye known as the seat of wisdom and the gateway to the self or soul.
Truth and awareness of self and others guide their ambitions to turn the tables of poverty by establishing a clear route to prosperity and sustainable livelihoods in Africa and elsewhere through investment, training and access to markets. In this way they hope to deliver a life-enhancing experience for the people who make MOT bags and everyone that supports this dream.
