Sustainability at Maison Alltrueist

THE CHALLENGE: UNDERSTANDING FASHION’S IMPACT

The fashion industry operates at an unsustainable pace. Mass production fuels overconsumption, leading to excessive waste and a depletion of natural resources. Consider these realities:

8–10% of global carbon emissions stem from the fashion industry—more than
international flights and maritime shipping combined.

79 trillion liters of water are consumed annually, with a single cotton
shirt requiring up to 2,700 liters and a pair of jeans over 7,500 liters.

92 million tonnes of textile waste are discarded each year, equating to a
truckload of clothing dumped in landfills every second.

35% of microplastics polluting our oceans originate from synthetic fibers
released through washing garments.

Yet the conversation around sustainability is complex. There is no universally perfect solution—every material, every process
carries an environmental cost. The goal is not absolution, but better choices at every stage of creation.

FINDING BALANCE

Fashion has long been a reflection of culture, innovation, and artistry. Yet beneath its beauty, the industry carries an immense environmental and ethical burden.

At Maison ALLTRUEIST, we recognize that sustainability is not a single solution but a meticulous balance of choices—each contributing to a more responsible and considered approach to fashion.

REDEFINING RESPONSIBLE FASHION

THE CASE FOR CONSCIOUS CONSUMPTION

Fast fashion thrives on excess; we reject this model entirely. Instead, Maison ALLTRUEIST embraces small-batch production, made-to-order, and bespoke craftsmanship—three pillars that inherently minimize waste:

Bespoke & Made-to-Measure: Personalization ensures a garment is not just purchased but valued. By designing for the individual, we create pieces intended for longevity rather than disposal.

Made-to-Order Knitwear: Utilizing cutting-edge 3D knitting technology, each garment is crafted in a single process, free from excess fabric waste. This method not only refines the final product but eliminates surplus inventory.

Limited Capsule Collections: Our small-scale production approach allows for a more thoughtful use of materials, ensuring that what we create is intentional and necessary.

MATERIAL SELECTION: CURATING WITH PURPOSE

Our approach to materials is one of discernment and responsibility.

Rather than subscribing to absolutes, we offer a considered range of natural fibers, certified sustainable materials, and innovative alternatives—each chosen for its balance of quality, durability, and reduced impact:

We work exclusively with cottons, linens, wools, cashmeres sourced from mills adhering to rigorous environmental and ethical standards.

Our knitwear collections utilize Better Cotton Initiative (BCI), OEKO-TEX 100-certified, Bluesign-Certified, The Good Cashmere Standard, Responsible Wool Standard and all being REACH compliant ensuring responsible production, farming and water conservation.

Top of the line European-milled linens, cottons, ultrafine bamboo fabrics (plant-based alternatives to traditional wool tailoring), and fine wools and cashmeres.

Sustainability in leather alternatives is nuanced—many vegan options are plastic-based, a trade-off that is not always environmentally sound. We work with brands that utilize plastic-free, bio-based vegan leathers or recycled alternatives (GRS certified) that push innovation forward while remaining conscious of their life cycle.

For those who choose it, our made-to-measure leather shoes are handcrafted in Alicante, Spain, using premium leathers sourced from renowned tanneries in Northern Spain, Italy, and Germany—each selected for their quality and responsible tanning practices.

While leather carries both ethical and environmental considerations, its longevity and durability make it an option for those seeking shoes crafted to stand the test of time. We are also advancing vegan made-to-measure dress shoes, working with innovative bio-based materials that uphold our commitment to thoughtful craftsmanship and sustainability.

Some of the finest textiles from high-end mills go unused due to overproduction. We integrate these materials into some of our Ready-To-Wear collections, giving new life to fabrics that would otherwise be discarded.

REPAIR & RESTORATION

EXTENDING THE LIFECYCLE

The most sustainable garment is the one already in your wardrobe. Rather than encouraging constant consumption, we offer expert repair and restoration services—not just for our own designs but for any well-loved piece that deserves a second life.

To uphold this commitment, we collaborate with a network of skilled craftspeople in Montreal, each specializing in areas such as leather goods, footwear, knitwear, and garment repairs. Their expertise ensures that your cherished pieces—whether a meticulously crafted handbag, a tailored jacket, or a fine cashmere sweater—are restored with the care and precision they deserve.

In an industry that often prioritizes the new over the lasting, finding artisans who can skillfully restore luxury items has become increasingly rare in North America. Our service seeks to change that, making expert craftsmanship more accessible. Each artisan we work with sets their own pricing, ensuring fair wages and supporting the longevity of their craft.

THE NUANCE OF CHOICE

Sustainability is not a singular path—it is a series of informed decisions. At Maison ALLTRUEIST, we present options, not ultimatums.

Whether choosing a tailored wool coat, a cotton knit, or a bio-based vegan leather bag, we ensure that every material is thoughtfully sourced, and every garment is crafted with care.

The future of fashion is not dictated by one standard but by a collective movement toward better practices, better materials, and a renewed appreciation for clothing that is made to last.
For those who seek clothing with depth, integrity, and consideration, Maison ALLTRUEIST offers more than a purchase—it offers a conscious choice.
