MATERIALS

OCEAN YARN

One of the innovative materials used by ECOALF is Ocean Yarn. 80% of ocean waste can be found at the bottom of the ocean, which is why the ECOALF Foundation was established in 2015 to launch the Upcycling the Oceans project.

With the help of more than 4,000 fishermen across 60 ports in Spain, Greece, Italy, & France, the project aims to collect marine waste & give it a second life through recycling, thus closing the loop.

0-RELEASE YARN

A cutting-edge material that helps reduce microplastic pollution in the ocean. Synthetic materials, like nylon, often release microfibers during washing, but the Meryl® knit, made of 50% recycled nylon, uses hydrogen bonds to prevent the release of microfibers. Ecoalf has invested in R&D for over a decade and has developed over 500 recycled fabrics, with the Ocean Yarn and 0-Release Yarn being two of the most innovative.

The use of 0-Release Yarn not only helps prevent microplastic pollution, but also provides technical benefits, such as excellent tenacity, natural stretch, and extra softness.

LINEN

Ecoalf incorporates the natural and sustainable material, linen, into its products. Linen requires minimal water during cultivation, making it an environmentally-friendly choice. Its strength also adds to its durability, making the fabric long-lasting.

The use of linen in Ecoalf products not only supports sustainability but also reduces carbon footprint as one hectare of flax removes 3.7 tonnes of CO2 from the atmosphere.

RECYCLED COTTON

Ecoalf is committed to reducing its water footprint by utilizing recycled cotton in its products. The process begins with post-industrial waste, which is torn down into fibers that are then spun into yarn. Despite being shorter and less regular than virgin cotton, Ecoalf's extensive research and development has enabled them to improve the fabric's feel, making it softer and similar to conventional cotton.

Furthermore, using recycled cotton eliminates the need for additional dyeing, reducing water usage in production. By incorporating recycled cotton, Ecoalf is helping to address the environmental challenge of cotton production and conserve water resources.

    RECYCLED NYLON

Ecoalf uses recycled nylon to reduce its carbon footprint and conserve water. The company works with ECONYL® to produce thread from fishing nets, carpet remains, and pre-production nylon leftovers. This approach helps prevent the consumption of natural resources and minimize the impact of ghost nets on marine environments.

By using recycled nylon, Ecoalf is able to reduce its environmental impact while producing high-quality products.

    RECYCLED POLYESTERS

Ecoalf uses recycled polyesters to reduce environmental impact.

Recycled PET Polyester: Made from recycled plastic water bottles (PET - Polyethylene Terephthalate), this type of recycled polyester is produced through a mechanical process that transforms bottles into high-quality yarn.

Recycled Polyester from Garments: Ecoalf is testing a technology that allows suppliers to transform old garments into recycled yarn, creating recycled fabrics for its collections. Some of the company's products already feature materials made from used garments.

By using recycled polyester, Ecoalf reduces water usage by 20%, energy consumption by 50%, and CO2 emissions by 60% compared to conventional polyester. This makes recycled polyester a valuable material in the circular economy.
