About Watson and Wolfe - England

WATSON & WOLFE

ENGLAND

Men's Sustainable Luxury

This great English Company called Watson & Wolfe is an exciting addition to allTRUEist, classic and timeless styling and well-crafted is what sustainable design is all about.

Their story started in late 2016, when their intention was to use genuine leather to start their accessories line, but with more insight it changed is is now a PETA approved vegan brand. They possess a wealth of experience within the luxury leather industry, so this seemed like the natural path for them to take. However; during the research and development phase in early 2017, they uncovered the facts and saw the reality of the leather industry.

Sadly, the demand for leather continues to grow and as a result the damage caused to people, rivers, ecosystems and the need to farm more animals is growing too. This was a turning point and they decided to change directions completely. They have an opportunity to produce a product range that is not only safer for people, but more environmentally friendly for our planet, and which challenges the leather and luxury goods industries as we know them.

Made in a small boutique factory that has a long history of producing the highest quality accessories for luxury brands all over the world, Watson & Wolfe uses the same traditional crafting techniques and construction.

There are very few offerings of high-end men's sustainable and ethical products in the market and W&W is filling the gap with superior quality materials and fine craftsmanship. Supporting brands like Watson & Wolfe is key if we want to continue to see the movement grow and become the norm.

SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES

At Watson & Wolfe they use sustainable materials sourced from the most reputable suppliers. The materials are made using less chemicals and less water, they are produced in factories which have eco and sustainability credentials.

They adopt a slow fashion approach, so they are careful to design items which will not be out of fashion next year. In the design process they consider the construction, ensuring items will last a long time.

Their commitment to sustainability means they are always looking at new, innovative materials which are coming to market, such as corn leather and other eco-friendly alternatives which is why Watson & Wolfe is the perfect fit for allTRUEist as we strive to work with animal-free brands but that also look into sustainable materials.

ANIMAL & ECO FRIENDLY

Brands and consumers must evolve to be a fully sustainable supply model with cruelty-free manufacturing, better working conditions for people and less reliance on our planet’s resources.

It is essential that the inner materials are as superior as the exterior ones. Their lining material is manufactured in an eco-friendly process and meets Bluesign system standards.

Unlike most leather goods brands, Watson & Wolfe uses recycled PET fabrics, made with recycled, post-consumer plastic bottles. By using this material they can significantly reduce the output of waste water, energy and CO2 and cut down on the consumption of crude oil.

ECO-LEATHER

The high performance material used is the result of years of Research and Development and is a huge leap towards fully sustainable faux leathers. The manufacturer of this eco leather is based in Rome, Italy. With three sites globally, the company is committed to developing materials with the optimal mix of technical performance and aesthetic appeal.

Each global site is fully powered by a rooftop photovoltaic generator producing usable solar energy.  The environmental gain from their green energy is quantifiable, and gives a total Co2 saving of 1.023.990 Kg per year. Only low environmental impact LED illumination is used throughout the group. They have their own intensive Research & Development program, pushing the boundaries of sustainable production of leather.

They are aiming to develop a 100% solvent-free product and an article for shoe lining with 80% of BIO content.

RAW MATERIAL

The plant material used to make the eco leather is sourced from North America.  Yellow Dent is a type of field corn with a high soft starch content. It received its name because of the small indentation (“dent”) at the crown of each kernel on a ripe ear of corn.

Yellow Dent grows on over 99% of North American Continent corn field acres and is therefore a prime location for this core ingredient.  Field corn is not for human consumption, it is in fact produced for ethanol purposes and other manufactured goods.

This raw material has a smaller environmental footprint than its petroleum-based alternatives, saving CO2 emissions.  The oil extracted from yellow dent corn represents more than 50% of the final material used on their collections.

This revolutionary process creates the innovative and eco-friendly CORN LEATHER.

100% SUSTAINABLE LINING

The recycled PET lining is produced in Taoyuan city, Taiwan. This clever process dyes and weaves the recycled PET yarn, producing a quality, long lasting lining, which is featured throughout this premium collection. Watson & Wolfe chose this factory because of their outstanding continued commitment to environmental responsibility.

2008 Awarded for bluesign® system to environmental production process

2015 Awarded for ISO 14064 Greenhouse Gases Emission System Certificate

This supplier also works with ECONYL® recycled nylon yarn, which is made from carpet flooring, ocean waste and industrial plastics salvaged from landfills and oceans all over the world.
